Minister for specialized degrees at universities - PU’s glory to be restored soon: PU VC


LAHORE: (Saturday, September 28, 2024): Provincial Minister for Higher Education Rana Sikandar Hayat Khan has said that such specialized degrees will be introduced according to the needs of the market, after which the students will not have to look for recommendations and references for jobs. He was addressing the 13th convocation organized by Punjab University Hailey College of Banking & Finance (HCBF) here on Saturday. On this occasion, PU VC Prof Dr Muhammad Ali, Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood, Dean Faculty of Commerce Prof Dr Mubbsher Munawar Khan, HCBF Principal Dr Ahmed Muneeb Mehta, Registrar Dr Ahmed Islam, Controller of Examinations Muhammad Rauf Nawaz, faculty members, students and their parents were present.

In his address, Rana Sikandar Hayat announced that one male and one female best performing students of HCBF will travel to Dubai at his expense this winter. Mr Hayat said that steps will be taken to create specialized IT universities. He said that the country can’t develop without the development of women. He said that he wants to see PU among the 100 best universities in the world. He said that power of knowledge leads to high place in life. He said that Dr Muhammad Ali was the best candidate for PU. He hoped that Dr Muhammad Ali would take PU to new heights of excellence. He said that Dr Muhammad Ali brought Quaid-e-Azam University from around 600th to 315th place in the world ranking. He said that modern degree programs are planned in the rest of the educational institutions while at PU, we find disputes over how to sit and how to dress. He said that Maryam Nawaz has introduced education-friendly policies. He said that Punjab government will soon give 40 thousand laptops to talented students. He said that the CM is introducing scholarships programs for 30 thousand students next week. PU VC Dr Muhammad Ali said that new degree programs will be introduced to develop skills among students. He said that employment opportunities for children will increase through skill-based education. He said that our mission is to give quality education to students, make them specialized in the subject, enhance their employability and make them good human beings. He said that Pakistan is full of opportunities and you can also reach the peak in your career by working hard. He said that he belongs to a village in Chiniot and everyone dreams of reaching where he was today. He said that this country is ours and we all have to make it better together. He advised the students that they should accept only those rights that you are entitled to. He promised to restore the glory of PU. He said that it is a matter of astonishment that there is software Technology Park in DG Khan University but not in PU. He said that I am grateful to the Punjab Chief Minister who appointed the VCs on merit. He said that appointing the vice chancellor in universities purely on merit is the greatest service to the nation. He said that Maryam Nawaz’s decisions on merit are a torch for the nation. He advised the students to work hard, think positively and thank Allah for the blessings. He said that the standard of honor is knowledge and piety, not wealth and power. He said that his services to his mother have brought him here therefore the students should also take care of their parents. Principal HCBF Dr Ahmed Muneeb Mehta while congratulating the students said that the future of the nation is in their hands. He said that new degree programs have been introduced in Hailey College of Banking and Finance according to the modern needs of the market. He also congratulated the parents of the successful students. In the convocation, degrees were distributed among 350 students of BBA (Hons) (4-year) session 2019-23, two-year BBA (Hons) session 2021-23, MBA session 2021-23 and medals were distributed among 9 position holders students.
